Grid fees — also known as non-commodity tariffs — cover all non-energy charges such as network transmission fees, taxes, and regulatory levies. They are always location-specific and are classified as NON_COMMODITY tariff type in Flatpeak.

Glossary

Flatpeak distinguishes between two tariff types:
Tariff TypeDescription
COMMODITYThe price of electricity itself.
Think of it as “the price of electrons.”
NON_COMMODITYGrid operator charges for delivering electricity.
Think of it as “the price of delivering and governing electrons.”

Adding support for grid fees

Flatpeak automatically determines whether a customer’s tariff requires manual addition of grid fees.
If needed, you can enable users to manage this directly through the Tariff Settings Page.
Once added, grid fees are automatically included in all cost reporting endpoints. Follow the Tariff Settings Page guide to enable customers to add grid fees when they are not already applied automatically by Flatpeak. The Grid Fees section is located at the end of that guide.

Auditing

To review applied grid fees, call the audit-price endpoint and inspect the non_commodity section.
